This past week, I read a story I’d never heard before, and I loved it so much, I had to share it. Maybe you’ve heard it…
A man was walking along the shore after an early morning storm and saw hundreds of starfish lying at the waters edge. Off in the distance, a boy was bending down and throwing the starfish back into the water. When they got closer, the man asked the boy what he was doing, and the boy replied, “The starfish will die unless I get them back into the ocean as quickly as possible.” “But there are too many,” said the man, “I’m afraid it won’t make that much of a difference.”
The boy bent down, tossed another starfish into the ocean, and said,
“It made a difference to that one.”
I think we’ve all felt at times that what we do can’t be making a difference or that it doesn’t matter. But if one little thing we do effects one human being, we matter. Our one little thing ripples into so much more than us.
And remember, helping the masses
starts with helping just one person.
Find your one today and say to yourself (or to them!), “Hello, little starfish, what can I do for you today?” It may be a hug, a meal, a call, a message, a card, a pie, a conversation, a listening ear, or all kinds of little things… but you are making a difference to one, and that is why YOU are so important in this great big world of ours.
