I’m laughing at myself this morning because we are so territorial when it comes to our spots on the beach. Anyone else? We get down there at sunrise and set up in “our” spot (yeah, we’re those people, kind of like having “your” pew at church), we’re all good, got our stuff spread out, all y’all can sit anywhere else you want. You’ve got the whole beach! I don’t even care if you sit within 10 feet of us on either side or behind us, but, but, but does it have to be….
in front of us with 8 umbrellas when there’s an entire SC beach still open as far as you can see in any direction, or the family with the man who talks so – loud – all – day – long,
or the ones that play their music so eeevvvveeerrryyyooone on the beach can hear it,
or that family with 8 kids that cry, whine, cry, all day long (never had any of those, you?), and do they have to sit so close they’re sharing our shade?
Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
We are crazy people magnets, I tell you.
I laugh as I type that (although it’s true) but man is it entertaining to watch and listen and observe people on the beach from….
dental flossed buns of steel that may as well be naked,
and which make me jealous,
to boobs that need more, uhhh, support, I do not have that problem,
to beer bellies that, well, don’t need another beer,
I may be on that list,
to tattoos we’re trying to interpret as they walk by,
I kind of want a teeny one, hidden, but just so I know I did it,
to men talking so loud as if it makes them more of a man,
that’s not B, I can’t hear half of what he says, I just nod and smile,
to young girls flirting with the lifeguards,
oh, to be 20 again,
to lifeguards playing their music so I’m not sure how they can hear “help!” from the water,
but who are always so cute, is that a requirement(?), to toddlers crying their eyes out and no one paying attention because they’re just too tired to care and know they’ll stop crying if they ignore them while everyone around them can’t ignore them….
and then there’s us, the observers, the quiet talkers, the good neighbors, spread out on our territory as far as we can get as if we have a party of 10 coming so don’t you get in our space or under our shade. Us, the readers, scoping people out (see left) as we peer over the top of our pages through dark sunglasses, cutting a look at one another as yet another crazy person comes by. We – are – those – people – they – are – all – our – people.
What do people say about us? Hahahahahaha, I can only imagine.
Life, grandly hilarious, and we’re right in the midst of it!!! May – as – well – laugh – it’s – better – than – crying.
I have no idea where this came from today, lol, it’s 5 a.m. Gone to pack my book and my shades!
xoxo,
JCG
