When someone reaches out for help,
we can be an anchor or an oar,
we can weigh them down,
or we can help them get to shore.
We can be the darkness
or a lantern burning bright,
we can push them deeper in
or lead them with our light.
We can hold them down
or a ladder we can be,
we can leave them standing there,
or help them to climb free.
Even when we’re weighed down
and losing our own hope,
when we see others drowning,
we can pull them in our boat.
Together, we can row as one,
until we see the shore,
and get through it together,
much stronger than before.
We all need someone at some point in our lives. And someone will need us too. Even on our toughest days, I believe we can be a lifeline for someone who is drowning, and together, we may save ourselves.
